Acupuncture and Stress

In today’s world, it would be a hard to say that there is no stress in our life. We are surrounded by stress from all directions. It can come from work, family, illness and hormonal changes just to name a few. Changes are inevitable and our attitude towards changes can also result in stress. Some changes are positive where others can affect our health and happiness in a negative way. For instance, change of job to a better one, having a baby, transfer to a better place are all good changes but they still fill us with anxiety and stress because we are unsure of what lies in store for us in the new position. Hence, stress and life is irreversibly bond and although we cannot separate the former from the latter, we can make sure that both of them don’t get entangled in a destructive manner. Our emotional reaction to stress can be any form such as anger, depression or irritability.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the main organ that effects our Qi or energy flow is the liver. It is responsible for ensuring that there is smooth Qi flow through out our body. When the body reacts to stress, an impairment in the function of the liver can occur and the flow of Qi is then disrupted. Thus, when liver Qi stagnation occurs then exaggerates of the symptoms associated with stress. In order to treat stress it is important to remove the Qi blockage then stress and its associated symptoms can be reduced. Common symptoms associated with stress usually include anger, irritability, depression, anxiety, feeling of suffocation, insomnia, irregular menstrual cycle, PMS, headaches and gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, constipation and IBS.

Acupuncture is the treatment where the use of fine needles which are inserted into specific points through out the body which can help to remove the Qi stagnation. Relieving liver Qi stagnation is important and by removing the stagnation and supporting the liver offers a remedy for the treatment of stress as the Qi stagnation is minimized. It can help in releasing endorphins which offers a relaxing effect on our body. You may be surprised to learn that many people can fall asleep during the treatment. Most people suffering from stress are able to get relief with the use of acupuncture treatments as well as using Chinese patient herbal formulas. This feeling of relief can be experienced up to several days after the session in the early stages of treatment with the results stretching out longer with time.

Although acupuncture helps to overcome stress, you should keep in mind that you can achieve faster and longer lasting results when you incorporate dietary and lifestyle changes. This can include adding regular exercise 5-6 days a week into your lifestyle, avoiding eating fried foods, drinking caffeine and alcohol. It is important to include lots of whole grains, veggies and fruits into your diet to help with your healthy stress free life.

A painful condition that can turn into a serious problem

Acupuncture and Heartburn/Reflux

Acid reflux is also known as heartburn and is the burning sensation experienced in the chest area which is caused when the gastric acid present in the stomach rises up into the esophagus. The location of this pain can be behind the breastbone and in the esophagus. Other commonly known symptoms of acid reflux usually comprises of chest pain, hoarseness in the voice, dental corrosion, food regurgitation and difficulty in swallowing.

The cause of acid reflux is due to the malfunctioning of the lower esophageal sphincter that lies in the stomach which allows the acid to flow up into the esophagus. The major cause of the dysfunctional esophageal sphincter can be due to pregnancy, overeating, certain food allergies, hernia, peptic ulcers, smoking, alcohol consumption, and constipation.

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for helping to relieve acid reflux or heartburn. One of the studies conducted in this subject is from the University of Adelaide. The stimulation of some of the major acupuncture points of the wrist can help in relaxing the muscle band and thus eventually relieving the regurgitation. Certain people whose cause of heartburn is due to external factors such as stress and anxiety can immensely benefit by using acupuncture as this treatment focuses on offering a relaxing effect to the body. Acupuncture treatments for acid reflux depend upon the symptoms that are presented at the time of diagnoses. We take an individualized case history and the diagnosis is based on that information. In acute cases of heartburn, only a few treatment sessions will be required whereas for chronic cases more will be needed. It is important that you get regular treatments over a several months period so that you can achieve permanent relief from the symptoms. The acupuncture treatment sessions can last for twelve weeks or more. Acupuncture treatments emphasizes that the human body has its own power to heal for which this treatment exploits in a natural way.

It is important that you add appropriate lifestyle changes so that you can keep acid reflux at bay. We stress that all of us should have healthy eating habits, concentrate on having food at regular intervals and try to minimize the stress in our life’s. Quitting smoking can be an important factor in combating heartburn. Some people are of the view that the medication that helps to control acid reflux is also doing them no harm but in many cases this is not true.

We also like to combine other treatment methods with acupuncture. Acupuncture is a holistic method and this treatment and can reduce the pain and symptoms as it returns the body to its normal functioning. As with most conditions that we treat in this Clinic we like to combine traditional Chinese medicine with Chinese herb herbal formulas.

Heal them quickly with TCM and get back on the field.

Acupuncture and Sports Injuries

We are well aware that the life of athletes and sports players can be tough and they can suffer through a lot of pain in their lifetime. Professional and amateur athletes can receive many sports injuries through out their career and at times these injuries can remain with them for the rest of their life. One of the most commonly occurring sports injuries is the straining of the joints or sprains. Apart from the pain and inflammation, they also have discoloration of the skin in the form of bruising with decreased movement of the injured area. In current times, athletes have found acupuncture to be very effective for suppressing the inflammation and help in healing these conditions fast.

Traditional Chinese medicine helps with encouraging our body’s to heal them self’s. Several studies have been conducted on how acupuncture can treat sports injuries with positive results. This traditional line of medicine can be used in two ways. Firstly, we start by treating the injured area and secondly, we take the whole body into account and emphasizes on improving the well being of the body in general by releasing important substances such as endorphins, serotonins and neurotransmitters and all these substances are produced due to the body’s reaction to the acupuncture treatment. In turn it helps the body to attain relaxation and aids in pain relief.

Research conducted into acupuncture treatments reflects the fact that acupuncture can help the body to heal and is a key treatment method for the resolution of the injuries. This ancient treatment form can help with relief from acute and chronic pain, enhance the local microcirculation, and can aid in drawing the white blood cells to the area of the injury where the process of healing is accelerated and will also enable the diffusion of bruising and swelling.

Athletes and sportspeople a like should understand that some of these injuries that they have sustained in their professional life time can be serious enough that in their later years can affect their daily routine and the quality of their life. In fact, one-third of the injuries suffered by these people will be serious. The positive results obtained from the use of acupuncture is the reason why a lot of the top athletes and sports players are turning to this to treat their musculoskeletal problems. With many of the top sports teams employing a full time acupuncturist to treat their players . Using the therapeutic functions of acupuncture as a method to maintain or improve their performance levels so that they can remain at their peak.

TCM can help them stay at their peak for longer and extend their playing careers as well as giving them a better quality of life when they retire from their chosen sport with the use of acupuncture, Chinese herbal formulas, acupuncture point injection therapy, moxibustion, liniments and life style advice just to name a few. So if you want to be one of the smart ones give as a call to structure your treatment plan today.

Acupuncture and Sinus/Hay Fever

Sinus and hay fever are very common health disorders which are suffered by many people throughout the world. Sinusitis is referred to as a medical condition in which the mucous membranes in the sinus cavities that surround the eyes get inflamed. Allergies and viral infections can also be contributing causes for sinusitis. Sinus symptoms include watery or sticky mucous discharges, sinus congestion, headache, pain and pressure. The headaches that can be experienced with sinusitis can either be a facial headache or a migraine. Hay fever is a kind of allergy which is caused due to a reaction from certain pollens and grasses. The symptoms of hay fever include frequent bouts of sneezing, blocked sinuses and a profuse discharge from the nose.

Acupuncture is an extremely effective and a natural alternative for the treatment of sinus and hay fever. When you visit us for your treatment, we will carry out a case history which comprises of asking questions about your health, analyzing your tongue, taking your pulse and after completing your case history, we will decide which type of treatment will work best for you. Usually, the treatment for hay fever and sinus will be a combination of acupuncture along with Chinese herbal formulas which can help to speed up the healing process. The treatment will actually depend on how severe the problem is and how long you have been suffering from it. For acute conditions, the treatments may only take a few while in cases of chronic sinusitis or hay fever, the treatment process can certainly take longer. Acupuncture treatments are usually provided once or twice a week. The frequency of the treatments will also dictate the rate at which the condition can be relieved.

The consultation and treatment in our Clinic takes an hour and is combined with pulsed magnetic therapy as standard. Acupuncture treatments are generally combined with herbal formulas as well to help to achieve the best results in the fastest time. This treatment can involve the use of various herbs which are quite healing and also having little or no side effects. We believe in offering an individualized treatment program as per your particular condition. The use of acupuncture will help aid in reducing the symptoms of sinus and hay fever and at the same time it can help in eliminating this health condition as well. As time goes by, many people have reported that they require fewer medications and get to the point were they on longer need to take anything at all which is definitely a positive sign.

The effectiveness of acupuncture treatments for sinus and hay fever has been proved by several clinical studies. It is known that opting for Traditional Chinese Medicine can save on your medical cost as well as your suffering. By stimulating the right points in your body then you can rectify the physical and emotional imbalances which can ultimately help relieve the symptoms of sinus and hay fever. Following a healthy diet and lifestyle advise is also extremely important along with acupuncture and herbal treatments so that you can eliminate these health conditions for good.

Any sinus or hay fever treatment can be greatly be improved by combining acupuncture and herbal treatments with regular nasal passage flushing with a warm saline solution. The use of a Netipot is the perfect way to irrigate the sinus passages. Originating in traditional Avurvedic medicine they are the perfect vesicle for administering the saline solution in to the sinus passages. They are available for purchase from our Clinic with full instructions on how to use them. So don’t put up with sinus or hay fever any more.

Is there an end to the despair!

Acupuncture and Depression

Depression is a very drastic disorder and usually comes with both physical and psychological symptoms which affect the daily routine of the person. The symptoms of depression are varied but usually comprise of crying spells, poor sleeping, stress, worry, anxiety, stomach problems, concentration problems, lack of interest, etc. In acute cases, individuals lose hope in their lives and commit suicide to end their misery.

The treatment for depression as per modern medicine is through psychotherapy. The use of anti-depressant drugs aids in treating the particular symptoms that the person suffers from but the side effects of the medication can out way the benefits. With this form of treatment you are just managing the symptoms and you can expect to be on the medication for the rest of your life. However, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treats depression in a whole different light. This therapy does not consider depression as an illness but as a symptom. The treatment that is involved is to make the individual free of the symptoms that are affecting their day to day life. Acupuncture is an important medium through which the imbalance in the body can be restored to normal and thus it has evolved to be an effective approach for depression treatment.

There have been several studies that have been conducted around the world on the treatment of depression using acupuncture and each of them confirm that this approach is holistic and positive for the depressed individuals and its effect is found to be relatively higher when used in combination with Chinese herbal formulas and psychotherapy. Acupuncture consists of inserting very fine needles at specific points on our body. This is done in an attempt to help in enhancing the Qi or energy flow in our body. Acupuncture aids in reducing and finally eliminating the chemical imbalance in the body which causes depression. This treatment stimulates the central nervous system and helps in increasing the production of the naturally occurring chemicals. In this manner, the Qi inside our body can be restored to normal which in turn will bring about the physical, mental and emotional balance to our body.

The treatments adopted by us in this Clinic helps to keep the mind and body focused and treats the physical and mental symptoms simultaneously. There are no drug side effects in this line of treatment. In fact, in acupuncture, the use of medications is drastically less compared to that of western medicine. When we are treating depression in the clinic we like to add Chinese herbal formulas as part of the treatments as they help to speed up the healing process.

Hormones govern our body and play a pivotal role in bringing about the right balance. Acupuncture aids by bringing about hormonal balance and hence it is the perfect answer for the treatment of depression. It enhances the general well-being of our body, enriches sleeping habits and makes us feel positive about life. It believes in enhancing the energy in our body by indulging in regular exercise. TCM offers us a new equation to life and helps us to see our life in a positive light. In fact, we find it easier to deal with the problems in our life and accept changes in a positive way. In all, it can be rightly concluded that the effective treatment of depression is possible only through TCM.

Acupuncture and Infertility Issues in Women

Infertility issues in women indicate the biological incapacity of a women to conceive. Infertility in women can also be related to the inability to carry pregnancy to full term. There are several factors that can contribute to infertility problems and some of them can be rectified with medical intervention.

Traditional Chinese medicine through the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas has become a proven treatment method for dealing with fertility issues in women. With regular treatments, TCM can help to enhance the production of follicles in the ovaries. There are several case studies that indicate that acupuncture can help to thicken the uterine lining and this can offer a better chance for embryo implantation. Nowadays, fertility acupuncture is recommended for women who have gone through a series of miscarriages or are going through the in vitro fertilization treatments.

TCM has been handed down through the generations for thousands of years as a treatment protocol which treats the root cause of the condition not just the symptoms. It focuses on enhancing general well being which can help to treat the symptoms of infertility. When women with fertility issues are administered acupuncture, it can help to enhance the blood flow to the reproductive organs. The function of the ovarian glands is also increased. This then allows for healthy ovulation and conception.

The benefits of fertility acupuncture are vast and focuses on

• Regulating the menstrual cycle
• Endometrial lining thickening
• Enhancement of the cervical mucus
• Decreasing stress levels
• Supporting ovulation
• Increasing libido
• To discourage miscarriages
• To improve the strength of the immune system
• Controlling the level of FSH
• Removing blockages in fallopian tubes

The age of a woman plays a vital role in her ability to conceive. However, for older women who would like to have a baby, acupuncture can assist by helping to create better quality eggs through the slowing of their biological aging. Regulation of hormonal balances can be achieved through regular TCM treatments. TCM can help to reduce the FSH levels as high levels of FSH may lead to the production of poor quality eggs. Some women tend to suffer from infertility issues due to their menstrual cycle not being regular. Acupuncture can help to regulate the menstrual cycle which can increase fertility in women who are trying to conceive.

We will analyze your condition and prescribe an acupuncture treatment that is tailor made to suit your condition. Chinese Herbal formulas play a very important part in the treatment process. The success rate for treating female infertility issue is a very good. Acupuncture is one of the better methods for treating fertility issues as there are no side effects associated with it.

You don't have to live with it.

Acupuncture and Cold and Flu

We can get concerned around cold and flu season when they are so common. Now days, a flu vaccine is available but the virus mutates so fast that the vaccine will become no longer effective. A better way to treat them is through the use of Traditional Chinese medicine by using acupuncture and Chinese patient herbal formulas. When you use TCM as your treatment form, you can help to prevent a cold or flu from coming on. Acupuncture can also treat the illness even when the symptoms appear. By greatly reducing the signs and symptoms as well as the duration you can recover much faster then just letting it run its own cause.

TCM can help prevent colds and flu by strengthening the immune system. Some individuals can have an underlying weakness. This inherent weakness is the reason why some people can catch a cold or flu very easily. TCM understands this aspect and it can help to boost the immune system so that the body can fight the onset of a cold or flu. In order to prevent illness and to build up the immune system, this can be achieved through the use herbal medicine along with regular acupuncture sessions. There are studies that indicate that after a session of acupuncture, the antibodies in blood stay at a higher level for at least 3 days after the session.

Acupuncture treatment sessions last for around 1 hour which includes the consultation. The session involves the insertion of needles in to the various locations of the body such as the arms, neck and the back. After insertion, the needles are left in the body for around 20 to 30 minutes. Most clients find that acupuncture treatments to be painless and can be quite relaxing.

In general there are two main types of colds in TCM theory which are wind/heat and wind cold. The wind heat is more common here due to our climate, were as a wind/cold is more common in colder climates like Melbourne. A wind/heat can change into a wind/cold and visa versa. Some symptoms associated with a wind/heat are a sore throat, thirst, headache, general malaise, green or yellow phlegm and chills and fever where as the wind/cold has muscle aches, occipital headache, sinus congestion or clear discharge, copious thin white or clear watery sputum just to name a few.

The herbal formula used in the case of wind/heat is the Yin Qiao Wan. This formula is also recommended to be stored at your home so at the first signs of a sore throat they can be taken. If taken early enough they can prevent a cold from coming on. They can be taken at any stage of a wind/heat attack and can reduce the signs, symptoms and duration. Yin Qiao Wan is a classic Chinese formula and there are studies that indicate that it has both anti-viral and anti-bacterial effects in the body. This can help to reduce inflammation and strengthens immunity. When treating a wind/cold the herbal formula Xiao Qing Long Wan is used. Both formulas can be combined with other formulas to help to treat more pacific symptoms like cough etc.

Acupuncture is very good for treating all types of conditions and when it is combined with herbal medicine, it can offer unbelievable results. TCM has been practiced for thousands of years now and the reason that it is gaining so much popularity in the western world is due to the success rate that it achieves when treating disorders like this.

Acupuncture and Fertility issues in Men

For a long time, male infertility was a subject which was not to be discussed and society always blamed the women for not being able to reproduce. It is important to address infertility issues of men which is a way to get closer to resolving the problem. Hiding such health issues is not going to help anyone. Now days there is medical help available which can help to reverse the problem of infertility in men. Infertility in men is when the sperm is not able to fertilize the egg or the ova. There is also the situation of sterility which is linked to inadequate production of sperm. In order to clearly understand male infertility issues, it is important to comprehend that it is divided into three main areas:
• Inadequate production of spermatozoa in the testes
• Obstruction in the flow of sperm through the seminal tract
• Inadequate quantity of semen delivered into the female reproductive tract or the inability of the spermatozoa to fertilize the ova

As part of understanding the extent of male infertility issues, certain laboratory tests are done to find the root cause of the problem. They are a sperm count, morphology and motility of the sperms. Other important parameters which are checked in order to understand the cause of infertility issues are the quality and the features of the seminal fluid and liquefaction. All of these factors contribute to a couple getting pregnant in the natural manner.

Some of the important sperm evaluation categories include aspermia (absence of ejaculate), adequate, azoospermia (inadequate sperm in semen), oligospermia (low density of sperm), poor motility, morphology (presence of a large amount of abnormal sperm) and antisperm antibodies.

Generally specking, according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine a kidney deficiency is the main factor when it comes to infertility issues in men but it is not the only condition so a proper diagnosis is very important. If it is miss diagnosed this condition will not improve or can even get worse. TCM is an effective treatment method for treating infertility issues in men through the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas which can help to restore the hormonal balance and help in restoring the virility in men.

Acupuncture and Low Libido in Women

It is shocking to find that at least 70 percent of women suffer from low libido at one point of life or other. Lagging libido in women can be related to the onset of menopause and some women may experience this problem in their whole menopause transition or even longer. Other commonly known causes for decreased sexual desire are post-childbirth, emotional issues, breastfeeding, drug reactions, weight gains, stress, conflicts in relationship, physical responses, hormonal imbalances or the plain inability to reach orgasm. Some women who suffer from low libido are shy and find it hard to share it with anyone which can be the reason why they persist with low libido and can suffer from the underlying symptom throughout their life. It is important to address the situation and understand that this is a major health problem that needs to be rectified.

Resorting to treatment with Western medicine or drugs is not the best option to treat low libido in women. It is extremely important to understand the underlying issues causing this condition. This is the way that you can reach the root cause. It is found that alternative medicine such as Traditional Chinese Medicine is a positive answer to the problem of lagging libido. Using acupuncture as a treatment means that you need not have to worry about any risks associated with the treatment as there are no side effects. TCM divides any problems regarding women’s sex life into four areas which are the
• Lack of desire
• lack of arousal
• failure to reach orgasm
• discomfort or pain associated with intercourse

Each of these problem areas has a different diagnosis to go with it, thus there are separate acupuncture treatments to offer you results with your condition. In a broad perspective, lack of libido usually pertains to a weakness in your kidney Qi or energy. TCM regards kidneys as the origin of reproductive energy thus low desire occurs due to disruption in the kidney Qi. Weak kidney Qi is related to the lack of arousal and failure to orgasm can be related to the imbalance in the liver Qi. According to TCM, the theory is that the liver channel flows across the genitals and the liver is responsible for the proper Qi flow through out the body and any interruption in this Qi flow can result in the loss of orgasm. Blood stagnation can be a cause of pain during intercourse.

TCM breaks down the cause of low libido into different patterns and once you have a proper diagnosis of your condition we will trailer a treatment plan to suit you. The treatment sessions occur once to twice a week and you will need a course of treatment sessions as it is not a quick one or two treatment fix. Lifestyle changes may also be necessary to help you in conjunction to acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbal formulas. It is important to incorporate healthy dietary habits and lifestyle changes to help you to keep such problems at bay in the future.

Traditional Chinese Medicine can play a role in enhancing men’s sexual drive and there have been several studies that indicate that acupuncture can help to enhance sexual desire and to help to increase men and women’s libido. Sexual health is as important as the general health of the body and ignoring the fact is not a good sign. It is important to treat health conditions like low libido in the earlier stages, however, most of the time men feel embarrassed and do not seek professional advice to aid in treating this condition. Loss of libido can indicate that there may be some underlying factors involved and it is important to restore sexual desire for a healthy marital life.

When we are dealing with low libido, we need to analyze what is causing this problem because there can be various underlying physical and emotional issues which can cause you to lose interest in a physical relationship. This condition can be caused due to extreme stress, tragedy, relocating to a new area, change of job, the birth of a baby, period after a major operation, experiencing pain during intercourse or the failure to reach orgasm. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a good form of treatment for low libido in men with the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Low libido can be due to an imbalance of Qi or energy which can likely be to do with the kidneys. After a careful analysis and diagnosis, then specific points are selected to treat the cause of your condition and not just the symptoms which can help to restore your sexual function back to normal.

TCM is not only used to treat low libido but it can be used for treating a number of other sexual health problems with the combination of acupuncture and herbs. It is effective in the treatment of infertility, premature ejaculation, low sperm count, low sperm mobility and impotence. The increasing percentage of people who are turning to TCM for help is partly due to the low risks of side effects or adverse reaction in this treatment method. Another important reason for selecting acupuncture is the fact that it treats you as a whole. Acupuncture treats the root cause of the condition not just to manage the symptoms.

Most men can be shy to talk about their libido problems and can be humiliated to talk about it; however, we all must understand it is nothing more than a health issue. It is important to understand your body and the only way you can find a solution to low libido is to take it up with a GP or health practitioner. Keeping the problem to yourself will not help you as you may not be able to find the solution to this health condition by yourself.
